Introduction to the research cluster and focus area

A group of researchers at the University of Aarhus have established a research focus area called Cognition, Communication and Culture to coordinate and profile cognition-related research across the five faculties.

The Faculty of Humanities has selected the project as one of three research focus areas and is financing a number of activities. Similarly, the Faculty of Theology has selected a closely related project called Religion, Cognition and Culture as a four-year-long focus area. Other activities are taking place at the other faculties, in particular at the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The intention is for Cognition, Communication and Culture to serve as a dynamic cluster of autonomous yet coordinated units whose activities have an impact outside the individual research groups.

Thematically, the focus area is divided into five subtopics:

1) Cognition and the Brain (coordinated by Albert Gjedde and Leif Østergård)

2) Explanation and Evidence in a Mental and Neural Context (coordinated by Jakob Hohwy)

3) Comparative Linguistics (coordinated by Sten Vikner)

4) Memory and Cognition (coordinated by Dorthe Berntsen)

5) Culture and Cognition (coordinated by Armin Geertz)

The general coordinator is Andreas Roepstorff
